~ scroll to bottom to play ~ Healing The Mind: Cognitive Priming for Lasting Resilience 'ask dorothy' The WISDOM podcast  Season 5  Episode 161 ~   In this episode of 'ask dorothy' People experiencing mental ill health frequently engage in a style of thinking called “Repetitive Negative Thinking.” This style of thinking involves the tendency to have negative thoughts about the future (worry) or about the past (rumination), and these thoughts can feel uncontrollable. In the absence of a cure or effective treatment for dementia, attention has shifted towards identifying risk factors for prevention.   Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD) describes self-perceived worsening of cognition despite unimpaired performance on neuropsychological tests. SCD has been associated with an increased dementia risk and steeper memory decline.   Repetitive negative thinking (RNT) is a transdiagnostic process that manifests across several mental health disorders associated with increased vulnerability to dementia. RNT has thus been proposed as a candidate marker of risk for dementia and, relatedly, could contribute to the manifestation of SCD.  The best measures if you are looking to support optimal cognitive functioning is to begin with your daily thoughts and the underlying beliefs that influence the thoughts you hold. 💗 Here I share the research findings ~ how negative thoughts are associated with a disease of the brain ~ and most importantly what you can do yourself to heal the mind. Perhaps when you've been excited to be speaking with someone, perhaps you notice that you enjoy the attention when all eyes in a group are focus on you ~ maybe its when you have that special someone's undivided attention - or maybe you've overshared as the result of having a certain affinity towards a person you've just met - or someone in a trusted long term relationship.   To overshare is to disclose an inappropriate amount of highly personal, sensitive, or confidential information. It can be to the wrong people - for example to your boss or a work colleague, in the wrong setting, - in the middle of a job interview, at a friend's party perhaps as you find yourself the center of attention yet you don't really know anyone at the party - or disclosing too much, too early as you are starting to get to know someone in a relationship.  💗 If you would like strategies for navigating the relationships in your life with others who overshare, or if you find yourself oversharing and would like my help, please reach out to me.
