This Next Generation Episode highlights one of our 2022 STEMusic Book Scholarship Winners Malayekia Miapeh! She shares how she got interested in STEM through the example of her mother and her natural curiosity. Malayekia explains how she watched her mother excel as a nurse and how that moved her to want to pursue a career in the healthcare industry. She also shares her experience moving from Liberia all the way to North Carolina and how becoming a nurse may ultimately allow her to return to her homeland. Episode 23 covers Dalia's journey of how she got introduced to STEM via the AVID program to how he became a Senior Process Engineer. Dalia shares her non-traditional journey through college which includes a stint at a community college where she trail-blazed a path in a Bio Tech Program. She also describes the difficult times when she was so overwhelmed and how she chose resilience even when things got rough. She then turns to her professional journey as a process engineer sharing how she progressed through her career by focusing only on the task in front of her and not being concerned with climbing what is known as the traditional career ladder.
