Your volition guards the gate of your soul, the mentality of your soul. If you want to be a spiritually mature believer, it requires a series of volitional decisions every day. You made the decision to believe in Christ. Now you must make the decision to handle personal sin as soon as it occurs using rebound (1 John 1:9). Then make the decision to consistently learn the Word of God and grow in grace and knowledge. You must be willing to stand boldly and proclaim Christ. “Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you” (1 Pet 3:5). You must decide to keep your priorities straight and finish the race. “I fought a good fight, I finished the course, I kept the faith” (2 Tim 4:7). The final challenge is done—you have the strength to walk alone if you need to.
