A new report released by House Judiciary Committee Democrats on October 26, 2026, raises serious allegations about Attorney General Todd Blanche’s handling of his July 2025 interview with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, accusing him of repeatedly steering the conversation away from a survivor whose account implicated Donald Trump. According to the report, Blanche interrupted Maxwell on at least three occasions when she attempted to discuss a woman identified as “Jane,” who previously told FBI investigators that Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to Trump at Mar-a-Lago when she was just 14 years old. During that encounter, Epstein allegedly presented the teenager to Trump by saying, “This is a good one, huh.” When Maxwell attempted to discuss Jane during the interview, Blanche reportedly discouraged her from providing details, at one point stating, “Let’s not talk about individuals.” Congressional Democrats argue that Blanche’s conduct raises potential questions of witness tampering and obstruction, particularly because Maxwell was scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee less than two weeks later. The controversy is compounded by Maxwell’s subsequent transfer to a minimum-security federal prison camp in Texas approximately one week after her interview, a decision that has generated additional demands for an explanation from lawmakers, including Senator Sheldon Whitehouse.
The allegations against Blanche form part of a much broader accusation that the Trump administration has interfered with efforts to investigate Epstein’s associates and withheld potentially damaging information concerning the president. The Democratic staff report identifies allegations involving 11 women, including five who have directly accused Trump of rape or sexual assault in circumstances involving Epstein, and questions why the Justice Department has declared further prosecutions unwarranted while significant investigative material remains undisclosed. Among the records highlighted are FBI documents concerning allegations involving minors, a partially redacted 2009 communication contradicting Trump’s claim that he expelled Epstein from Mar-a-Lago, and evidence that federal authorities have withheld information sought by congressional investigators. The report also criticizes Blanche’s role in restricting access to Epstein-related records and the administration’s handling of the July 2025 memorandum announcing that no additional Epstein investigations were justified. House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin is calling for an independent special counsel to investigate Epstein’s remaining potential co-conspirators and determine whether Justice Department officials improperly obstructed investigations or concealed evidence. Although the allegations of criminal interference have not been established in court, the disclosures place Blanche’s actions and the independence of the Justice Department’s Epstein investigation under renewed scrutiny.
