In this episode I review George Mumford's book the Mindful Athlete. After experiencing a variety of hardships through the early part of his life Mumford found mindfulness and eventually became a mindfulness expert earning his Masters degree in the field. Mumford went on to help thousands of inmates as well as practice in his preferred clients professional athletes including the Chicago Bulls under Phil Jackson and the Michael Jordan era.
Over time Mumford developed the concept of the five superpowers:
- mindfulness
-concentration
-insight
-right effort
-trust
These superpowers are interconnected and work together
If your mind is filled with distracting emotions you lose your flow. You’re no longer in the present moment. If you’re thinking about that comment or argument from yesterday, you’ve lost the current moment.
