During a press gaggle this week, President Trump casually announced that the United States would allow 600,000 Chinese nationals to enter the country as college students. He has long focused on improving relations with China, but the idea of importing and educating such numbers runs against the America First instincts of his voters. When Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick was asked why these students were so important, he admitted that many U.S. universities would go out of business without foreign enrollment. For the Right, that sounds less like a warning and more like a promise. Ending large-scale immigration from a rival power while letting bankrupt institutions fail should be an easy win. After a Sikh semi-truck driver allegedly killed three people while attempting an illegal U-turn in Florida, he was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide. In response, millions of his fellow Indians have signed a petition demanding his release, and $1 million dollars has been raised in his name. This has caused a larger conversation on social media about the way that many industries in the United States have become ethnic cartels due to immigration from the subcontinent. The Trump administration recently announced that it will be reviewing all 55 million foreigners with U.S. visas for violations that would bar them from the country. The United Kingdom is embroiled in a strange controversy: Officials are trying to ban the English flag from the public square. As immigration-driven violence rises, national identity has become central. Many Englishmen, watching as immigrants pour in and grooming gangs prey on their daughters, have begun raising the red-and-white St. George’s Cross. Officials invent excuses to tear those flags down — even as immigrant groups replace the Union Jack with the flag of Pakistan. To outsiders, this may look like a petty fight over fabric, but it is a symbol of the existential struggle gripping Britain. When citizens clash over flags, it signals that civil war could be near.
