Friday's selling pressure posted the worst day for the S&P 500 (SPX) since April. All 4 major indices erased gains as markets fell on increasing volatility surrounding U.S. and China trade relations. Despite the red arrows, AMD (AMD) managed to post a 30% gain this week and Nvidia (NVDA) touched new all-time highs Friday. Consumers are bracing for a slowdown in the economy, according to the University of Michigan's October consumer sentiment survey. Joanne Hsu notes that while the latest reading showed little change from September, consumers are increasingly worried about pocketbook issues, including the return of inflation and a weakening labor market. Tariffs are also a growing concern, with many believing they will lead to higher prices.
