WSX South African GP Recap and More, on the Kickstart Podcast

Presented by Maxxis and Outhouse Coffee The last race at the last stop of the entire FIM WSX World Supercross Championship provided some excellent racing last weekend, as Joey Savatgy and Jason Anderson traded numerous passes for the lead and ultimately, the 2025 WSX World Championship, with El Hombre prevailing and earning his first World Championship title. Shane McElrath, meanwhile, dominated the final stop with a complete sweep of the racing, but ot wasn't enough to keep Max Anstie from stripping him of his number-one plate. Presented by 6D Helmets Jerry Robin has long been a fixture on the pro motocross and Supercross circuit, as one of the sport's most prominent privateer racers. His life took a drastic turn on April 19th, though, when he crashed during practice at the East Rutherford Supercross and suffered paralyzing injuries. Through it all, Robin has approached his recovery, therapy, and new life path with the same intensity that brought him success on the racetrack, and only eight months post-injury, he seems to have his new life pretty well figured out. Last week, Robin started a job with his sponsor, FXR Racing, the Canadian MX apparel brand that has made huge strides in American motocross. We caught up with Jerry this afternoon for a super enjoyable conversation.

It was a successful weekend for the KTM Group, as Eli Tomac made a winning debut aboard his new Red Bull KTM in Canada, and Malcolm Stewart used his Rockstar Husqvarna to earn the King of Paris Crown in France! We were on hand in Vancouver for the second round of the FIM WSX World Championship Supercross Series, and getting to see Tomac compete on his KTM 450 SX-F for the first time was really something. That said, we had Kristen join us on the show this morning to give us her insight and input about all things WSX, then we shifted our attention to last week's Red Bull KTM team launch, and more! Presented by 6D HelmetsWhether Dave Castillo's name rings a bell for you or not, we're willing to bet that you have unknowingly enjoyed his work in one way or another. A professional racer in the 90s, Castillo is the son of Jim Castillo, founder of Innovation Sports, the brand that practically invented knee bracing. After curtailing his full-time racing efforts, Dave teamed up with his dad to create Asterisk, the most successful off-the-shelf knee brace company in our sport. Concurrently, Dave began a career in Hollywood as a stuntman. Early on, Castillo specialized in two-wheeled stunts, but eventually grew into other aspects of the industry, including stunt coordinating. Currently, Dave is still busy in Hollywood and remains connected with his motocross roots by racing the annual Day in the Dirt Motocross Grand Prix that started out as a Hollywood stunt event, but also with his family company Intake Breathing, which produces the breathing kit that utilizes two small stick-on steel discs and a magnetic nose clip that expands your nasal passages.

While October 1 was the date we expected all of the news about 2026 to be released, much of the formal "goodbye," and "thanks for the memories" press releases have trickled in over the past couple of weeks. Does that mean that the remaining "news" will drop on Saturday, November 1? Or will they be released on Monday the third? No matter...while we await the official news about Sexton and Kawasaki, Tomac and Prado at KTM, Deegan in Fox, Barcia and Ferrandis with Ducati, and more...we had a good time speculating about all those pairings, and more!
