The Secret Origin of the Medbed Conspiracy Theory feat. Molly Olmstead (E392)

Some online communities believe that “Medbeds” can supposedly cure cancer, regrow limbs, and reverse aging. The catch? You have to wait for Donald Trump to defeat the deep state before an appointment opens up. Slate reporter Molly Olmstead joins us to discuss her yearlong investigation into the origins and consequences of this imaginary, sci-fi inspired medical technology. Her reporting took her through bogus appointment offers, families fractured by conspiracy beliefs, and a purported healing chamber in Sedona. It led all the way to a man who claims he fought aliens on Mars and had his destroyed arm regenerated afterward. In Premium Episode 328, Liv Agar and Spencer Barrows introduced us all to the sad world of the “Alienated Parent Forums” and, for this episode, they are back with an update on the moral panic related to parental estrangement. Since our last coverage of the topic, the amount of articles written about parental alienation syndrome by the American liberal journalist class has grown considerably. Liv and Spencer walk Jake and Julian through a couple of those pieces along with a few posts from the forums in order to get a better understanding of just how we got here. Noah’s Ark has been discovered. Again. This time, the claim involves underground scans, a boat-shaped formation in Turkey, and a publicity campaign promising evidence that could vindicate Genesis. Travis, Jake, and Julian investigate Andrew Jones and Noah’s Ark Scans, the latest effort to establish the Durupınar formation near Mount Ararat as the remains of the biblical vessel. Jones’s fascination began with the extraordinary claims of amateur archaeologist Ron Wyatt, who also claimed to discover the Ark of the Covenant, Goliath’s sword, and the dried blood of Jesus. Today, Andrew Jones is trying to find the Ark with modern surveying equipment and help spreading the word from Lauren Witzke and Edward Szall. Along the way, we examine the flexible measurements used to make the formation fit the description of the Ark in the Book of Genesis, why this crew is so invested in finding physical proof of the Ark, and whether the Bible even says that the final resting place of the Ark is Mount Ararat. https://library.biblicalarchaeology.org/sidebar/measurements-in-the-bible-evidence-at-st-etienne-for-the-length-of-the-cubit-and-the-reed/ Subscribe for $5 a month to get all the premium episodes: www.patreon.com/qaa Click here to become a subscriber to Cursed Media today to get access to new episodes of Raising Hell releasing right now, plus our other exclusive Cursed Media series: https://cursedmedia.net Produced by Liv Agar & Corey Klotz. Robots. First they came for our jobs, then they came for our sports, and now they’re coming to satisfy our every need (and maybe handing out death penalties). After a rise in chatter surrounding robots due to this year’s robot olympics, Jake decided it was time to zoom out from our recent focus on AI to inspect the tech AI may be inhabiting in the not so distant future and the resulting conspiracies. Later, he shares a video of Jim Kardashian boxing with the Terminator only to discover the fight was put on by a real video game. That’s right folks - we’ve been swindled yet again. The “Great Replacement” conspiracy theory claims that powerful elites are deliberately replacing white populations through immigration. Under the second Trump administration, people who speak its language are representing the United States abroad. Josef Burton returns to QAA for a tour of the increasingly pilled world of American diplomacy. He explains how the department actually works, then looks at the officials and political appointees bringing white nationalist conspiracism into its public messaging and immigration policy. Along the way, we discuss “remigration,” an ambassador whose online antics have caused diplomatic headaches in Belgium, and the truth behind State Department’s traditionally staid image Bruce Oreck’s Holiday Card https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/first-read/diplomatic-muscle-yes-ambassador-finlands-holiday-card-n282181 Josef Burton on Twitter https://x.com/PinstripeBungle Subscribe for $5 a month to get all the premium episodes: www.patreon.com/qaa Click here to become a subscriber to Cursed Media today to get access to new episodes of Raising Hell releasing right now, plus our other exclusive Cursed Media series: https://cursedmedia.net Produced by Liv Agar & Corey Klotz. Charles Stuart, aka “Snake the Bigfoot Hunter” claims he found a dead Bigfoot body in the Adirondacks, and he has a supposed DNA report from a Cornell University lab to prove it. Cornell, however, says it never performed the test. Now there’s a threatened $10 million lawsuit and a furious Bigfoot hunter establishment over an alleged corpse named Dack that was on display at the New York State Fair. We investigate the alleged evidence, which involves reading surprisingly vulgar passages from Snake’s Bigfoot Bible. Along the way, we check the reaction of rival Bigfoot research organizations and get too many details about a sexual escapade involving SpaghettiOs that supposedly unlocked new mysteries about the place of humans in the tree of life. But after we learn that “Snake’s” name isn’t really “Charles Stuart,” we’re left wondering whether exposing an elaborate hoax just earns us a supporting role in a carefully-curated performance. As we head into pumpkin spice season and the leaves begin to fall, so too does Jake’s brain - falling - nay - plummeting deep deep down into the AI slop latrine where his senses are assaulted from all sides as he claws at the crumbling walls of his reality. The harder he tries the more he breaks through into a world of falling green code and wireframes. Suddenly he realizes…everything is AI. In a proper rant episode, Jake and Liv break down the most egregious uses of AI that have been forced upon us from nearly every angle of our lives. From our movies, phones, and productivity to mathematics and the end of the world. Suspiciously, Julian listens on as the voice of reason while Jake preaches from his knees. Folks, you know things are dire when Julian is the calmest host on the pod. Today the QAA crew is taking a small rest day from their melted algorithms but have no fear dear listener, we won't leave you hanging. Last week Jack and Julian began releasing their new Cursed Media mini series and today, in lieu of a usual main episode, we would like to share the first episode of what they have been cooking up. Raising Hell. In 1988, federal regulators closed Omaha’s Franklin Community Federal Credit Union after discovering that nearly $40 million had disappeared. The institution’s manager, Lawrence E. “Larry” King Jr., was a charismatic civic leader and political operator who had cultivated relationships far beyond Nebraska. King’s public image, and the astonishing scale of the missing money, made the collapse a major scandal. But as investigators began following the financial trail, an even more disturbing story took shape. In Chapter One of Raising Hell, “Once Upon a Time in Omaha,” Jack LaRoche and Julian Feeld return to the origins of the Franklin story: not the lurid mythology that later grew around it, but the vulnerable children, troubled households, foster-care placements, and child-welfare institutions from which the first allegations emerged. The episode examines the experiences of young people who passed through a system that was supposed to protect them, including Boys Town and Nebraska’s foster-care network, and who repeatedly encountered adults unwilling or unable to recognize what was happening around them. At the center of this chapter is Eulice Washington. Her disclosures helped expose documented abuse inside an Omaha household and opened a path toward far more explosive allegations involving Larry King and other influential people. What began as an investigation into the treatment of children would soon collide with the Franklin credit-union case, drawing in social workers, journalists, law-enforcement agencies, politicians, private investigators, and witnesses whose accounts would be alternately ignored, sensationalized, challenged, and transformed. Content warning: This episode contains discussions of child abuse, sexual exploitation, and institutional neglect. Katie Souza is an ex-meth cook turned author and founder of Katie Souza Ministries. Why did she start to claim in 2026 that she is the mother of an alien hybrid child named “Starburst?” Travis kicks us off recounting how his broken algorithm brought Souza across his radar and what he learned as a result that caused him to ask, “What the hell is going on with American evangelicals?” After he details Souza’s history Jake jumps in with a QAA book report on Souza’s latest book, Star Gods, in which she outlines how alien greys came on Christmas eve and implanted a device in her to steal her eggs. Our resident alien guy, Brad, listens on in disappointment as the book slowly turns from aliens to God.
