How To Avoid Being A Micromanager While Trying To Grow Your Dental Business.
6:40Are you known as a micromanager in your business? Do you tell your employees “to figure it out,” and then critique them on their process for the task you asked them to do? Do you prefer to do things yourself because no one can do it the right way? It is okay, we have all done it in some shape or form. I recently read a story about dental business owners asking their dental assistants to do additional duties at work and it causing office stress. Now I know times are different now and adjustments need to be made to keep businesses operational… But how do you properly assign new duties without the risk of affecting office morale? Because here is the thing, additional duties require management, and management can easily slip into micromanagement, which of course leads to possible office tension. And office tension can lead to office turnover, which not good for anyone. So how do you nip office tension in the bud before it takes root? Well, let me introduce to you Standard Operation Procedures or S.O.P’s for short. S.O.P’s, allow you to put systems in place to achieve a positive outcome in any business setting that is predictable, transferable, and scalable. I originally was introduced to S.O.P from reading the book, Extreme Ownership, by Jocko Willink, an X-Navy Seal who transferred his experience from the battlefield to businesses looking to apply leadership for growth. This book will help you optimize your business and establish leadership from the top down. Because honestly, if you are going to take anything from this post, then it is this… If you are stuck micromanaging employees, then you can not 100% perform your duties as an owner/operator. Last week I read an article about how a Tik-Tok teen sensation single-handedly causes the rise of Invisalign sales by 26%. Unless you really want to.) But what I want to talk about is taking advantage of trends, especially if it correlates with high-end service that you provide. You see, marketing is honestly just a game of attention. And there are two types of attention you can use: Created Attention and Captured Attention Created Attention takes a massive amount of energy and there is no real way to know if there will be a payoff for your efforts. While using captured attention is the path of least resistance to grow your business. It is kinda like if you needed water, would you rather dig for it or would you rather go to a waterfall with a bucket? Hopefully, you chose the waterfall... So the million-dollar question... If you are offering Invisalign treatment, how would you capture attention? Well, the answer is easy. Just get in front of it. I know easier said than done. But the best way for your dental business to do so is to market directly to potential new patients seeking Invisalign treatment. Over time, I called this, “Result Targeted Social Media.” Meaning you create a clear Invisalign offer and an easy way for a potential new patient to interact and to claim your offer through your aggressive online outreach efforts. Because here the thing, if you are not proactively expanding and growing your dental business, then it is slowly contracting.
