106. Dr. Jennie Byrne on How to Work Smart & Combat Zoom Fatigue
Dr. Jennie Byrne is a trained physician, psychiatrist, and neuroscientist who published "Work Smart: Use Your Brain & Behavior to Master the Future of Work" which is about the workplace and how we can use an understanding of our brains and behavior to make it better now.
Dr. Jennie's research came about during the pandemic as we were trying to figure things out. The technical term for zoom fatigue is video conferencing fatigue and it's a real phenomenon. The research shows that our brain is basically in a high state of alert and that our brain resources are being drained to try to navigate a highly unnatural environment.
In this episode we also talk about the importance of taking care of ourselves so that we don't experience empathy fatigue.
And at the end, we have some fun talking about how emojis turn on our brains the same way facial expressions do.
