Sexton is a small winger with good offensive instincts. He possesses a fast and accurate wrist shot, which he knows how to place, as well as solid playmaking ability thanks to good vision and hockey sense. Sexton is a very quick skater with excellent acceleration and a plays with a high energy-level. While his small stature seemingly puts him in a physical disadvantage, Sexton doesn't back away from battles near the boards or in corners and can use his nimbleness to escape with the puck. Undrafted, Sexton's size has been an obvious knock on his NHL career but with a speedy and talented overall package, he has all the potential to become a late bloomer.
