Our boys don't just need to be ready for class this fall; they need to be whole walking in.
This week I sat down with Dr. Preston Igwe (@presto.md), a board-certified psychiatrist who works with athletes and high performers, to talk about what it really takes for Black boys, teens, and student-athletes to thrive this school year. We got into the pressure to represent, the quiet signs of struggle that get mistaken for attitude, and what parents and coaches can actually do to show up for our young men.
This one is for the mamas ironing first-day outfits, the daddies running drills before practice, and every Black boy trying to figure out who he's supposed to be when he walks through those doors.
Tag someone who needs to hear this before the first bell rings.
