DOLPHINS SQUAD SHOW: Miami Dolphins BLOW IT IN FINAL SECONDS in 29-27 HEARTBREAKING LOSS TO CHARGERS
LA Chargers QB Justin Herbert escaped the grasp of Dolphins’ DE Jaelen Phillips, and threw a perfect strike to Ladd McConkey for a 42-yard catch and run with under a minute left, and Cameron Docker kicked his 5th field goal of the day to beat Miami 29-27 and send the reeling dolphins to a 1-5 record.
The Dolphins took the lead with less than 1:00 to go, then let the Chargers go down the field and kick the GW FG with no time left to fall to 1-5.
Miami wiped out a 10-point deficit in the 4th quarter and took the lead on Tua Tagovailoa’s 7-yards TD pass to TE Darren Waller with :46 left in the game.
Nyheim Hines’ 41 40-yard return gave the Chargers the ball at their own 40, and on 2nd down, Herbert shook free from Phillips and threw to McConkey, who broke Trader’s tackle and ran took it all the way down to the Miami 17.
Herbert completed 29 of 38 passes for 264 yards and 2 touchdowns. Backup RB Kimano Vidal ran for 124 yards and hauled in a 7-yard TD catch. McConkey had 7 catches for 100 yards and a TD.
Tagovailoa finished with 205 yards passing on 21 of 32 with his 2nd 3-turnover game of the season. His 1st pick went off Jaylen Waddle’s hands before on Miami’s 2nd play of the game. His 3rd Int came on Miami's final drive, and the 1-5 Dolphins were booed off the field at Hard Rock Stadium.
De’Von Achane had his best rushing game of the season with 16 carries for 128 yards and 2 TDs — including a sweet 49-yard scamper in the 1st quarter. His 4-yard run in the 4th pulled Miami within 6 points with about 7:00 left.
After Miami’s struggling defense limited the Chargers to 3 field goals on its first 3 trips inside the 20, the Dolphins led 13-9 at half.
This was the 3rd time this season the Dolphins blew a late lead and lost I heartbreaking fashion.
