Many women are told their labs are "normal," or they aren't offered certain tests that would provide additional information, including nutrient levels. But these levels matter when it comes to clearing HPV and preventing HPV-related cancer, as well as other health issues. In this episode, I explain why getting "normal" lab results doesn't necessarily mean everything is fine. And 6 tests I feel should be ordered for women who are testing positive for HPV. I also explain that the reference ranges on lab reports are not necessarily "optimal" levels, and what levels you do want. Standard reference ranges often aren't good enough if you want to understand what is really going on in your body — including why you might still be testing positive for high-risk HPV or dealing with other unresolved health issues. Welcome to How Humans Heal. In this episode, I'm talking with my friend Margie Bissinger, a Physical Therapist and Integrative Health Coach who has spent over 35 years helping women prevent and manage osteopenia and osteoporosis. Bone loss is especially important to think about during peri-menopause and menopause, because the greatest loss in bone density happens within 2 years of menopause (or cessation of your menstrual cycle). More than 50% of women will experience an osteoporosis-related fracture in their lifetime. Wow! There is SO much we can do to help prevent bone loss – and it's not just about eating yogurt or lifting weights. There is research we can refer to and experts, like Margie, who've been creating content to help women. Margie hosts the Happy Bones Happy Life podcast and co-founded the Bone Health Academy, where she trains practitioners in her approach to bone health. Margie started helping women with osteoporosis when a group of endocrinologists asked her to see their patients with osteoporosis. She was upset to see well-intentioned women being told simply to "exercise," with no real guidance, so they turned to trainers or did whatever they could find, sometimes doing exercises that actually increased their fracture risk. That drove her to get involved on the state and national level, and she wrote one of the first books on exercise and osteoporosis. What Margie has seen over and over is that when people are given knowledge and tools, they CAN turn their bone health around. Welcome to How Humans Heal! In this episode I'm talking about how we can recover from stress even while we're under stress. I explain how it is that stress and trauma can make us susceptible to health issues, including HPV, why it's imperative to know your Stress Type®, and how your Stress Type influences your stress and trauma recovery plan. I want to be clear from the start: I'm NOT going to talk about how to reduce your stress to zero or try to become stress-free, because as humans we're always going to have some stress exposure. Aiming to be stress-free is impossible, and chasing it could actually cause you more stress, so I encourage you to release that concept. We often talk about "managing" stress instead, but I see people fail at managing stress all the time. So I reframe the goal to "mastering" stress by recovering from it. That's achievable. In this episode I'll teach you what I do to help my patients recover from stress and trauma and become resilient to it, because once we accept that stress is part of the human experience, we can take action to support ourselves through it and prevent its effects on our health and our lives.  I'm here to help you! Welcome to How Humans Heal. In this episode, I'm speaking with Alexa Ress, a holistic nutrition and functional medicine certified health coach who specializes in SIBO, IBS, and gut health. So many people struggle with bloating, gas, heartburn, constipation, or diarrhea, and get confused by conflicting information online. I wanted to bring Alexa in to clear things up. Many people start their journey with an IBS diagnosis, which really means serious conditions have been ruled out, without explaining what is actually happening. Research is increasingly pointing to SIBO, or Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, as the real issue for a large share of IBS patients, with estimates ranging from 45% to 80%. SIBO happens when bacteria that belong in the colon start over growing in the small intestine, fermenting food and creating gas. This creates a range of symptoms: burping, chronic bloating that worsens through the day (some describe it as feeling six months pregnant), abdominal cramping, and changes in bowel habits, from constipation to urgency and diarrhea. Beyond digestion, people can experience low energy, brain fog, skin issues like acne or eczema, and joint or muscle pain. Optimizing your health is absolutely possible. There are more and more ways to support healing that don't require expensive treatments or complicated protocols.
