Ten years ago, Robin Allison Davis left a television career in New York City for Paris, chasing a more expansive life. Less than two years after arriving, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 34, with no family history and no warning, and had to navigate a foreign healthcare system in a language she barely spoke.In this episode, Robin and I talk about her debut memoir, Surviving Paris: A Memoir of Healing in the City of Light — walking the city as a form of healing, building community as a single Black woman abroad, and what it really means to build a home somewhere that wasn't guaranteed to hold you.
