However, Anie is from an ethnic minority background, therefore finding a stem cell donor who was a good match was incredibly hard since so few of us from ethnic backgrounds are part of the donor register. While mental health care has improved significantly over the last few decades, many ethnic minorities in the UK continue to face barriers when it comes to access. Possible reasons include the stigma attached to mental health within these communities, limited representation, and lack of awareness of cultural or religion-related issues in the profession. In this episode we speak to mental health counsellor Nada Rahmouni to learn more about the particular aspects therapists must navigate as well as broader issues including anxiety, trauma, parenting, and self care.
