Here's what we've got: NOUVELLE VAGUE: Richard Linklater recreates the making of the French New Wave classic "Breathless" with a movie that looks like it could have come out in 1960, as well. You don't need to know anything about Jean-Luc Godard, or Jean Seberg, or Jean-Paul Belmondo to enjoy this affectionate and humorous homage, but there are Easter eggs galore if you do. In theaters before streaming on Netflix Nov 14. SHELBY OAKS (With William Bibbiani): Our good friend Bibbs joins in on a review of this horror debut from longtime YouTube film critic Chris Stuckmann. It follows a woman investigating the disappearance of her sister, who was a paranormal investigator, in a small Ohio town. In theaters. HEDDA: Tessa Thompson is impossibly charismatic in this bold reimagining of the classic Henrik Ibsen play "Hedda Gabler." Nia DaCosta's adaptation is queer and multiracial in ways that are reminiscent of "Bridgerton." The cinematography and production design are gorgeous, but see it for the clothes alone. Streaming on Prime Video. IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT: This will end up being a major contender in the awards conversation. Iranian master Jafar Panahi tells the story of several disparate people who come together to abduct and confront the man they believe was their torturer in prison. It's tense and beautifully acted, with an unexpected streak of absurd humor. In theaters. ORWELL: 2+2=5: Raoul Peck's extended video essay reminds us that George Orwell was right all along in warning us about authoritarianism. In theaters. We're continuing to blaze a trail through the many, many movies opening on October 10 here at Breakfast All Day.  Earlier this week, we reviewed TRON: ARES, A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE and KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN. Today, we discussed: ROOFMAN: Channing Tatum is ridiculously charming as a robber who escapes from prison and hides inside a Toys "R" Us store for six months. This actually happened. We enjoyed Tatum's performance, and the cast is strong, but the tone is off from indie director Derek Cianfrance. In theaters. URCHIN: Harris Dickinson makes an auspicious filmmaking debut with this gritty and intimate tale of addiction. Dickinson writes, directs and has a small supporting role, but Frank Dillane is the star as a young man trying to get clean but getting in his own way. In theaters. MOVIE NEWS LIVE! This was a lengthy one since we took last week off and there's so much to discuss. Among this week's topics were "Marty Supreme," the Riyadh Comedy Festival, the Melania Trump documentary, Rush reuniting with a new drummer, and the Smashing Pumpkins smoothie at Erewhon. October 10 is such an insanely packed week that we wanted to review a few of the new releases a little early here at Breakfast All Day: TRON: ARES: The third movie in the "Tron" series has a dopey script but extremely cool visual effects and a great soundtrack from Nine Inch Nails. See it on a giant screen and pretend you're watching a two-hour music video. Jared Leto, Greta Lee and Evan Peters star. In theaters this weekend. A HOUSE OF DYNAMITE: Kathryn Bigelow is back with a sharp, tense tale about what happens when an unknown country launches a nuclear strike against the United States. Rebecca Ferguson, Anthony Ramos, Tracy Letts, Gabriel Basso and Jared Harris are among the incredible ensemble cast. This is one of the year's best. In theaters this weekend before streaming on Netflix Oct. 24. KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN: This splashy movie musical from "Dreamgirls" director Bill Condon features dazzling production numbers, lush production values and great performances from Jennifer Lopez, Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, who is going to be a star. We'll spin around and wag our tails for a treat -- we're kinda shameless that way here at Breakfast All Day. October begins with reviews of three very different films: GOOD BOY, a lean and clever horror movie told from a dog's perspective. Indy, who's director and co-writer Ben Leonberg's own retriever, is actually the best boy. And in case you're worried: He's OK at the end. In theaters. PLAY DIRTY, a listless action comedy from director and co-writer Shane Black, who's had a much better track record with this kind of movie in the past ("Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," "The Nice Guys"). Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield lead an ensemble cast. Streaming on Prime Video, but you should avoid it. ARE WE GOOD?, an intimate documentary that looks at the life and career of comedian and "WTF Podcast" host Marc Maron. In particular, it focuses on how he's working through grief after the death of his girlfriend, filmmaker Lynn Shelton. We liked this. In theaters. Next week is nuts, with about eight movies coming out that have awards potential, or at least year-end buzz. So keep your ears open, and we'll help guide you through this busy time. Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Richard O'Brien and many more share their memories of this groundbreaking, enduring film, which is still playing in midnight showings decades later. September winds down in unspectacular fashion here at Breakfast All Day with two new movies you're welcome to avoid. We begin with "HIM," a horror film set in the world of pro football. Lots of style, cool production design and some striking cinematography, but it becomes overwhelming and -- eventually -- just plain silly. Marlon Wayans, Tyriq Withers and Julia Fox star. In theaters. Then we discuss "A Big Bold Beautiful Journey," which isn't much better. Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie meet cute at a wedding, then get stuck on a magical realist road trip in a rented Saturn where they must return to pivotal moments from their pasts.
