Veterinary cancer medicine is one of the most misunderstood branches of veterinary medicine because pet owners tend to equate it to cancer medicine in people.  The truth is that veterinary cancer care is very different than human cancer treatment because the goals of treatment are very different with quality of life always remaining the top core component of therapy.    In this episode, Dr. Roger explains the stark difference between human and cancer care and why he encourages pet owners whose pets are diagnosed with cancer, to have an open mind about considering a consultation with a veterinary oncologist (veterinary cancer specialist).    With cancer on the rise in pets and cancer being one of the most common causes of death in dogs and cats, if pet spend enough years having pets, it is not likely a matter of if, but a matter of when they will encounter a pet diagnosed with cancer. Dr. Roger Welton is a practicing veterinarian and media personality, owner of two veterinary clinics located in the Florida Space Coast, and author of the book, The Man In The White Coat.  Dr. Roger selects listener emails to be addressed on the air, so if interested in having your voice heard on the podcast, email comments or questions to [email protected].  For more content from Dr. Roger visit his blogs at Web-DVM.net and DrRogerHolisticVet.com.
