Is erotica "lesser" writing? We don't think so — and neither does our guest, Allison Whaley, CEO of Bothered Stories. We talk about the craft and business of literary erotica: what separates smart smut from mere explicit content and why fiction lives in the imagination in a way video never can. We get into the good stuff: the long tradition of dismissing erotic literature or punishing authors and readers of spicy stories. For example, Penguin Books literally went on trial in 1960 for publishing Lady Chatterley's Lover. Wait until you hear the numbers for romance novels. TLDR romance props up the entire publishing industry yet considered inferior to “real” literature. Why? Whether you write it, read it, or just believe desire deserves to be taken seriously — this one's for you.In this episode:Why literary erotica gets dismissed (and why that's nonsense)What makes smut "smart"The craft: tease, tension, and payoffKink and power dynamics done rightListen here, subscribe to Bothered Stories, and if a story in your imagination has been begging to be written — well, maybe this episode is the nudge you've been waiting for.Check out Bothered StoriesContact us:The podcast blog: Weekly Hot Spot and the Contact Us formDISCORD: LDWErika and [email protected] blog: Experienced [email protected] blog: Intelligent Phone Fantasy

This week, we talked with Allison Whaley, CEO of Bothered Stories, your destination for well-written smut. Allison shares what "taking desire seriously" actually means, and why the smartest smut is the smut that respects your brain as much as your body.
