Covert Operations – Hiding Your Purpose | Ivor Terret

    54:58

Covert protection is not hiding your presence from the principal. It's hiding your purpose from the environment. In this episode we’re going to bring together two separate and distinct topics, covert protection operations and methodologies for learning the craft. Why? Because we’re joined by a guest who is at the forefront of both these subjects. Today we're speaking with Ivor Terret, founder and CEO of Enablement Advisers. In this edition of the podcast, we cover: The differences between covert protection surveillance detection and the importance of understanding that. How do you know if covert protection is the right solution for your principal? And how do you sell it to the stakeholders? You want to get new methodologies under your belt and become more versatile. Is covert protection a skill you should learn? Where do you start? Can covert protection be taught online? Can anything in the field of protective services be learned online? See why Ivor says,  “Correct planning is the answer and training is the application of those written tactics and response. Not the other way around.“About Ivor:  Upon leaving national service in the Israel Defense force and Israeli Police Ivor was selected to help found and architect a government Surveillance Detection and Covert Security Unit tasked with protecting Heads of State and Strategic Sites. Fitness & Operational Readiness | Mick Coup

    43:51

When it comes to assessing your level of fitness, what benchmarks are you using? As protectors, where the expectations upon us can vary to such an extent, how do we know if we’re fit for purpose? Are we measuring by past experience or worst case scenario? It's also important to know the limitations on your body and to understand that you still have to be fit enough to cross the line. It's no good thrashing yourself every day in training to then get to the start line and find out you're broken to such a degree that you can't actually perform.  Operational readiness and fitness - we're talking to Mick Coup, founder of C2 Core Combatives and a long-established fitness specialist within EP. “I know that I can't survive being hit by a car. So, I take a lot of care when I crossed the road. Knowing your limitations reveals your actual capabilities far more than wishful thinking does” Traditionally, It's that time of the year where we get a bit introspective and start setting ambitious goals for the year ahead. So, in this podcast, we're taking a long look in the mirror and asking some tough questions. In this episode, Mick shares the benefit of his many years of experience in training and coaching, including:  How can protectors benchmark their fitness, what metrics should you use? if you're not physically able to protect somebody, should you really be saying that you are in the close detection industry as a protector? Training and equipment recommendations for protectors when deployed on operations Fitness, recovery and wellbeing tips for maximising training benefits as we age. More about Mick: Mick provides consultation and bespoke training covering a broad spectrum of both kinetic and non-kinetic subject matter - ranging from last resort armed/unarmed combatives to conflict/threat management methods, and from methods of restraining and controlling of violent subjects, to close protection and special-project operational tactics. Mick has also designed and developed the highly acclaimed ‘C2: Core Combatives’ system, adopted by various operational groups internationally to enhance the personal survivability of personnel in various conflict scenarios. https://www.linkedin.com/in/mick-coup-51199347/ (LinkedIn) http://www.corecombatives.com/ (C2: Core Combatives) More about the Circuit: The Circuit Magazine is written and produced by volunteers, most of who are operationally active, working full time in the security industry. Protective Intelligence & Threat Monitoring | Kristin Lenardson

    40:33

The threat landscape is becoming so much more difficult with online threats and with people putting online whatever they want. If your principal or a politician tweets about their company, or they tweet something negative about themselves, you could immediately have thousands of threats or people that are adversarial towards you very quickly. So, in the past where we used to worry about one person physically showing up somewhere, you could  now actually have a whole movement against you, or a government, depending on what you're looking into.  This week On the Circuit Magazine Podcast, we're speaking with Kristin Lenardson of Crisis 24 and founding board member of the International Protective Security Board (IPSB) as she discusses how protective intelligence and how EP has transformed over the last two years. Join us as we chat about why you have to understand threat management and how to really push yourself forward and distinguish yourself in the field so you can get hired. Key insights and takeaways from this episode include:  What problem are we really trying to solve for by integrating threat Intel as a service for EP? Accuracy of intelligence versus speed of dissemination? Which is more important? What practices and resources are recommended for operators to remain on top of threat monitoring?  What can SOC operators do to achieve greater buy-in from their mobile assets? How to get buy-in and explain the value proposition of intelligence gathering and analysis to stakeholders who sometimes view it as an optional extra, or a ‘nice to have.’ Advice or recommendations for anyone who is interested in this line of work and where to get more information and a better understanding of what it takes to be a threat analysist? What sort of skills, traits, qualifications and education is required? Be sure to tune in to this jam-packed episode with tons of actionable ideas and tips! More about Kristin: Kristin Lenardson brings a wealth of experience tailormade to support organizational risk intelligence. This week we’re going on to the front lines of workplace violence to uncover the full extent of its impact on fellow security professionals and what they’re exposed to on a daily basis.  It’s easy to become overly focused in your specific area or speciality but there is much we can learn from our colleagues across the industry who are experiencing similar challenges in different scenarios. As EP professionals, what lessons can we learn from the solutions they’re implementing? On this week’s show we catch up with Terry Conlon, Training Manager at RFC Security, based out of Ireland.
