Prayer: August 11, 2024

During our Sunday morning worship service, an Elder leads the congregation in prayer.

[15] For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. [16] Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.   Hebrews 5:1 For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. [2] He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness. [3] Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. [4] And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. [5] So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have begotten you”; [6] as he says also in another place, “You are a priest forever, after the order of Melchizedek.” [7] In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. [8] Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. [9] And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, [10] being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

[19] Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel solemnly swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones with you from here.” [20] And they moved on from Succoth and encamped at Etham, on the edge of the wilderness. [21] And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. [22] The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before the people. Exodus 14:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, [2] “Tell the people of Israel to turn back and encamp in front of Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, in front of Baal-zephon; you shall encamp facing it, by the sea. [3] For Pharaoh will say of the people of Israel, ‘They are wandering in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.’ [4] And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and he will pursue them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, and the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD.” And they did so. [5] When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” [6] So he made ready his chariot and took his army with him, [7] and took six hundred chosen chariots and all the other chariots of Egypt with officers over all of them. [8] And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the people of Israel while the people of Israel were going out defiantly. [9] The Egyptians pursued them, all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots and his horsemen and his army, and overtook them encamped at the sea, by Pi-hahiroth, in front of Baal-zephon. [10] When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the LORD. [11] They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? [12] Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” [13] And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. [14] The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.” God knows what we do not know, so we can trust His direction even in the face of what seems like overwhelming opposition.         •  God sees what we cannot (13:1-18)    •  God fulfills his promises (13:19-20)    •  God guides his people (13:21-14:4)    •  We will be attacked (14:5-9)    •  We often freak out (14:10-12)    •  God renews and assures (14:13-14)

“Deliver Us from Evil” Matthew 6:9-13 October 13, 2024 Pastor Tony Felich     Sermon Application [file] ----more----                                         Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this:             “Our Father in heaven,             hallowed be your name.             [10] Your kingdom come,             your will be done,                         on earth as it is in heaven.             [11] Give us this day our daily bread,             [12] and forgive us our debts,                         as we also have forgiven our debtors.             [13] And lead us not into temptation,                         but deliver us from evil.  We are to pray that God would either keep us from being tempted to sin, or support and deliver us when we are tempted.        •   A petition of humble admission         •   A petition for two circumstances:             1. When we are not in the midst of a particular temptation-                        “Lead us not into temptation”              2. When we are in the thick of a temptation-                       “Deliver us from evil”

"God’s Salvation Shapes our Lives" Exodus 13:1-16 October 6, 2024 Pastor Tony Felich  Exodus 13:1 The LORD said to Moses, [2] “Consecrate to me all the firstborn. Whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.” [3] Then Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the LORD brought you out from this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. [4] Today, in the month of Abib, you are going out. [5] And when the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, you shall keep this service in this month. [6] Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and on the seventh day there shall be a feast to the LORD. [7] Unleavened bread shall be eaten for seven days; no leavened bread shall be seen with you, and no leaven shall be seen with you in all your territory. [8] You shall tell your son on that day, ‘It is because of what the LORD did for me when I came out of Egypt.’ [9] And it shall be to you as a sign on your hand and as a memorial between your eyes, that the law of the LORD may be in your mouth. For with a strong hand the LORD has brought you out of Egypt. [10] You shall therefore keep this statute at its appointed time from year to year. [11] “When the LORD brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you, [12] you shall set apart to the LORD all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your animals that are males shall be the LORD’s. [13] Every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. Every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. [14] And when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ‘By a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. [15] For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, the LORD killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all the males that first open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ [16] It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand the LORD brought us out of Egypt.”  Our lives are to be informed and shaped by God’s redeeming work. Rites of Remembrance and Shaping: • The Feast of Unleavened Bread (3-10)  • The Consecration of the Firstborn (1-2, 11-16) What do we have today for remembrance and shaping?

“Forgive us our Debts” Matthew 6:9-15 October 6, 2024 Pastor Tony Felich  Sermon Application [file]    ----more----  Matthew 6:9 Pray then like this:              “Our Father in heaven,              hallowed be your name.              [10] Your kingdom come,              your will be done,                          on earth as it is in heaven.              [11] Give us this day our daily bread,              [12] and forgive us our debts,                          as we also have forgiven our debtors.              [13] And lead us not into temptation,                          but deliver us from evil.              [14] For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you,              [15] but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.    If we are Christians (those who have been forgiven because of Christ), we can and will forgive others.       •    What is meant by our debts? Trespasses?          •    Praying for Forgiveness.          •    Praying for a Forgiving Spirt.
