Today, Liz discusses the impact of stress on our relationships and what we can do to maintain a calm body when others share their stress with us. First, let's define what we mean by stress. Stress is defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances. In relationships, stress can manifest in various ways such as communication breakdown, lack of intimacy, and increased conflict. According to the Gottman Institute, "Stress and conflict are inevitable in any relationship, but how couples respond to stress and conflict is what makes the difference between a healthy or unhealthy relationship." This means that it's not necessarily the stress itself that causes problems in a relationship, but rather how we handle it. One way to maintain a calm body when others share their stress with us is to practice mindfulness. Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the current moment. By being mindful, we can avoid getting caught up in our own thoughts and reactions, and instead focus on listening and understanding the other person's perspective. Another tip for maintaining a calm body is to practice self-care. Self-care includes activities that promote physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This can include things like exercise, meditation, or simply taking a break when you need it. In addition, it's important to set boundaries in relationships. This means being honest with yourself and others about what you can and cannot handle. It's important to remember that you are responsible for your own well-being and it's okay to say no to things that are not good for you. Finally, it's important to remember that communication is key in any relationship. According to the Gottman Institute, "The most successful couples are those who communicate openly and effectively with one another." This means being willing to share your thoughts and feelings, and actively listening to the other person's perspective. In conclusion, stress is a natural part of any relationship, but it's important to remember that how we handle it is what makes the difference. First up, let's talk about our skin, nails, and hair. As we age, our skin can become dull and wrinkles can start to appear. But what's causing these signs of aging? According to health influencer Max Lugavere, "genetics play a large role in how our skin ages, but lifestyle factors such as diet, stress, and sun exposure can also have a significant impact." Next, we'll discuss the immune system. A strong immune system is crucial for protecting our bodies from illness and disease. Dave Asprey, health influencer and founder of Bulletproof, says "the key to a strong immune system is to focus on nutrient-dense foods, regular exercise, and adequate sleep." The heart is another important aspect of maintaining a healthy body. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and avoiding smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can all help to keep our hearts healthy. As Dave Asprey says, "the heart is the engine of the body, and we need to take care of it to ensure it runs smoothly." We can't forget about the brain, either. Keeping our minds sharp and healthy can be achieved by staying active mentally, eating a healthy diet, and getting enough sleep. According to Max Lugavere, "our brains need the right kind of fuel, and that means avoiding processed foods and consuming nutrient-dense foods like berries, nuts, and leafy greens." Last but not least, we'll talk about muscles. Regular exercise, especially weight-bearing exercises, can help to maintain muscle mass and strength as we age. As Dave Asprey says, "our muscles are the foundation of our movement and mobility, and we need to take care of them to maintain our independence as we age." Calories: A calorie is a unit of energy that is used to measure the amount of energy in food. Macronutrients: These are the nutrients that your body needs in large amounts to function properly. There are three types of macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Protein: Protein is an essential nutrient that is important for building and repairing tissues in your body. It is also important for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and nails. Good sources of protein include meat, poultry, fish, beans, and nuts. Carbohydrates: Carbohydrates are the body's primary source of energy. They can be found in a variety of foods, including grains, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. It is important to choose complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains, over simple carbs like white bread and pasta, as they provide more nutrients and are slower to digest. Fats: Fats are an important source of energy and are necessary for the absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. However, it is important to choose healthy fats, such as those found in avocados, nuts, and olive oil, over unhealthy fats like trans fats and saturated fats. Micronutrients: These are the nutrients that your body needs in smaller amounts, but are still essential for good health. There are two types of micronutrients: vitamins and minerals. Vitamins: Vitamins are essential for maintaining good health and can be found in a variety of foods, including fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Some common vitamins include vitamin A, vitamin C, and vitamin D. Minerals: Minerals are essential for maintaining good health and can be found in a variety of foods, including meats, dairy products, and whole grains. The fourth stage is action, in which the individual actively works to implement the changes they have planned. This can be a challenging stage, and it's important to continue offering support and encouragement to help them stay motivated and on track. Finally, we discuss the stage of maintenance, in which the individual works to maintain the changes they have made and prevent any backsliding. This stage requires ongoing effort and support to help the individual stay committed to their new behaviors and habits. Overall, understanding the stages of change can help us better support ourselves and others as we work towards our goals, and can provide a roadmap for navigating the often challenging process of making positive changes in our lives.
