223. Plott Historian

In this week's episode I am joined by John Jackson. John has spent his lifetime collecting information about the Plott Breed. Not only is he a leading expert on the breed he bred, raised and hunted them for just as long. We talk about how he got his start in the breed and how he met Taylor Crockett. He became a student of Mr. Crockett. They travelled many miles together and spoke to numerous mountain families about the old brindle bear dogs. In this week's episode I am joined by Greg Thompson. I met Greg about two years ago by chance at Tractor Supply. I noticed his dog box and had to strike up a conversation. He was in town visiting his parents for the holidays. While Greg was originally from the same area as me, he has moved West and is now a dry ground lion hunter. Along the way Greg has had numerous different types of working and hunting dogs. In this week's episode I am joined by Pat Blanton. Pat has had Stephens Curs long before the registry even exitsed. He knew and hunted with the founger Hugh Stephens. It was Hugh that asked Pat to bring his dogs into the registry. His dogs have made a name for themselves all around his region. Pat has won more All American Treed Dog awards than anyone else. This is no small task as the dogs have to be nominated by someone other thtan the owner.
