Did you know that rules of pet ownership are changing in Australia? Well, kind of. At the start of this month, the ACT revealed a new draft code of practice that sets out mandatory rules of dog ownership in the territory. Among the new rules is a required minimum time of three hours spent with a dog every day.  Now that is just for the ACT. Read the ACT's full draft Code of Practice here. But it comes a month after new laws at the federal level came into effect that changed how pets are seen in the family law system. Northern Territory Coroner Elisabeth Armitage has handed down the long-awaited findings in the inquest into the killing of 19-year-old Warlpiri-Luritja man Kumanjayi Walker, by then-police officer Zachary Rolfe. Armitage found that Rolfe was a racist, embedded in a racist culture at NT Police, and that Walker’s death was “avoidable”. A long-awaited verdict has been handed down in the mushroom murder trial of Erin Patterson. A jury found Patterson guilty of three counts of murder, and one count of attempted murder.
