Week 11: The Mechanism of Vertebral Subluxation

In today's episode, we will begin Chapter 5 and a discussion of the vertebral subluxation.  This chapter will explain the disc model as understood by Dr Gonstead.  We will discuss the working of the intervertebral disc as well as the 6 stages of disc degeneration. 

In today's episode, we will cover all of chapter 9 on the topic of scoliosis.  We will discuss the information we need to know for diagnostic purposes as well as the treatment approach that is most consistent with the Gonstead methodology. 

In today's episode, we will review the rules for determining misalignment of the sacrum at the SI joint.  We will then turn our attention to determining misalignments of the sacrum at the lumbosacral joint.  This will include the important topic of distinguishing between a base posterior sacrum and a spondylolisthesis.

In today's episode, we will talk about what goes wrong when the sacrum is responsible for causing SI joint dysfunction.  We will look at the biomechanics as well as the x-ray assessment of the sacrum to determine how we should be adjusting the joint in order to restore proper function.

In today's episode, we will be looking at femur head heights and using the measured deficiency to determine/calculate the actual deficiency.  This is an important consideration when determining when you should and when you should not prescribe a heel lift.

In today's episode, we will finish Chapter 8 on the Thoracic Spine.  This will include a brief discussion of somatovisceral and viscerosomatic reflexes followed by a discussion on examination procedures, followed by a description of proper adjustment positioning.  

In this episode, we will discuss the relationship between femur head height and pelvic position.  We will begin by briefly discussing the current research on this topic before we dive into the text itself.  The aim of this lesson is to understand clinical utility. 

In today's episode, we will begin Chapter 8 and our discussion of the Thoracic spine.  This will include a discussion about the unique aspects of the Thoracic spine and how it differs from both the Lumbar and Cervical spine.

In today's episode, we will be looking at the compound Ilium misalignments.  This includes the expected radiographic findings based on projection distortion.  It also includes an understanding of the underlying biomechanics that drives compensation in these instances. 

In this episode, we will discuss the Ilium's movement around the Y-axis. This is known as an IN or EX Ilium misalignment.  This movement can be quite destructive to the joints of the low back and hip.  Today, we will analyze how we can determine to what extent this issue may be affecting our patient.
