Episode 4: Israel: asset or liability of American imperialism? In conversation with Max Ajl

Since October 7th, the corporate media has done its best to mask Israel's genocide. These stories have not been innocent mistakes or, at best, biased reporting on past events. They have been powerful weapons in the hands of the Israeli army, strategically used in critical moments as complements to military moves. Few independent journalists have tried to debunk these stories and unmask this genocidal war for what it is. Dr. Max Ajl is a Senior Fellow at in the Department of Conflict and Development Studies at Ghent University and a researcher with the Tunisian Observatory for Food Sovereignty and the Environment. He is an editor at Agrarian South and Journal of Labor and Society, and has written for Agrarian South, the Journal of Peasant Studies, Globalizations, Review of African Political Economy, Middle East Report, and many other scholarly and popular journals, including the Guardian’s Comment is Free, Boston Review, and Monthly Review. He researches climate politics, Tunisian national liberation, agrarian politics in the Arab region, and ecological planning, and Arab-North African intellectual history. Medea Benjamin is an American political activist based in Washington, D.C. She is the co-founder of Code Pink: Women for Peace, an organisation known for its efforts in advocating peace and social justice.Benjamin and her organisation have coordinated actions against American intervention in the Middle East and the Global South, opposing the illegal w the war in Iraq, drone strikes in Afghanistan, and attempts at regime change in Iran and Venezuela. Benjamin is widely recognised for her direct activism, notably including the interruption of President Obama's speech in 2013, during which she questioned him about the War on Terror. she has authored several books, focusing on disclosing American foreign policy including: "war in Ukraine, making sense of a senseless conflict", "kingdom of the unjust: behind the us-saudi connection" and "inside iran: the real history and politics of the islamic republic of iran."
