Following her college graduation, Liz spent two years traveling the U.S., working on farms and communal living spaces as part of the WWOOF program. During a stay in Boulder, CO, she attended a school focused on psychic techniques, where she was trained in visualization exercises and energy work. Surprisingly, this is not where Liz had her otherworldly encounter. The main story centers on a period when Liz was living in a rural house in Upstate New York. After her roommate, Adam, invited her to participate in a "healing meditation", Liz agrees without many expectations. However the meditation had very surprisingly results, and set off a chain of even more bizarre experiences after. After the separation of her parents, Nina's father, Mike, bought and moved into an old 1950s house in Austin, Texas. From the start, Nina immediately felt something very off in the house as if another presence already lived there. Mike's attempts to quell her fears so that she wouldn't be too afraid to visit him were thwarted when Nina finally saw what was too great and too real to ignore.
