The Wacom Company Was Started By a Cult | Case File #254

What was MySpace? Well, it was one of the first social media platforms on the internet to become a cultural phenomenon and almost single-handedly revolutionize the very idea of social media. We look back nostalgically on the site as being part of a bygone era before the internet was overrun with ads, political misinformation, and mindless slop. However, the reality is that MySpace was designed from the very beginning to be a sleeper agent that would shepherd in this new Internet hellscape we currently live in. And the only reason why we think of it fondly is because it gloriously failed at its mission.----BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreon--CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--Join our Discord server!https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord--Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch!https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch

What are the muppets? Well, they’re an iconic cast of characters tied to decades of movies, tv shows, and merchandise created by the Jim Henson company in the late 1960s and then later sold to Disney in the early 2000s. But wait. It’s also a style of puppetry created by Jim and Jane Henson in the mid-1950s that applies not only to THE Muppets, capital M, but also other Jim Henson Company-created characters and properties like Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, Dark Crystal, and Yoda. So what exactly IS a muppet? Well, thanks to a Supreme Court case in the 1990s, we actually have a legal definition. And, spoiler alert, The Muppets, characters like Kermit the Frog and Gonzo, don’t technically qualify.----BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreon--CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--Join our Discord server!https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord--Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch!https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch

What is the Wacom Company? Well, well it’s the purveyor of finer pieces of technology usually in connection with creating art. However, this seemingly innocuous company actually has a much darker origin. One that is spawned from a sprawling networks of religious cults, political power struggles, and shocking amounts of money. THis is the story of how Wacom was started…. By a cult. --BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreon--CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--Join our Discord server!https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord--Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch!https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch

What is MrBeast Burger? Well, it’s the burger chain started by the most popular YouTuber on the planet. But, actually, is it? Or was it started by a shadowy restaurant organization run by the same guy who owns Bucca De Beppo, who secretly operated it for MrBeast behind the scenes, and then when he wanted to shut the whole thing down because the food was really bad, this shadowy organization basically took ownership of his name and likeness and is still holding it hostage to this day?--BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreon--CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--Join our Discord server!https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord--Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch!https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch

Who are the Kellogg Brothers? They’re the siblings behind the company that would become known as Kellogg’s, which has become synonymous with breakfast cereals. Their most famous creation was a little product called Corn Flakes, which the cereal box or Kellogg’s corporate website will tell you was invented to be a healthier breakfast option. But that’s only half right. Because Corn Flakes were actually invented to keep people from...jerkin' it.--BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreon--CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--Join our Discord server!https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord--Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch!https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch

So what happened? Well, in 2005, an episode of the Mythbusters accidentally proved that a crime three men were accused of in 1986 was physically impossible. And two years later, one of these men saw the episode, and it started a process of his legal team using it to get him and the other two men exonerated. But the scary thing is that, somehow, even after they proved that they couldn’t have possibly committed the crime, it still took 17 years for them to be released.--BACK OUR PATREON!https://bit.ly/deepcutspatreon--CHECK OUT OUR NEW YOUTUBE CHANNEL!https://bit.ly/mysterytreehouse--Join our Discord server!https://bit.ly/deepcutsdiscord--Pick up some Deep Cuts T-Shirts and other merch!https://bit.ly/deepcutsmerch
