In 1919, the United States experienced what is now called “Red Summer” where a series of violent riots erupted across the country, predominantly against Black citizens. It lasted from May to October and resulted in around 600 deaths. In part 1 we cover the riots of Charleston, Vicksburg, Ellisville, Longview, and Washington DC. Stay tuned for part 2!
