American Single Malt Whiskey is now officially recognized as a distinct whiskey category by the federal government—the first new addition in over 52 years!
The TTB’s landmark decision, effective January 19, 2025, establishes clear standards for American Single Malt, ensuring authenticity, protecting producers, and elevating its global reputation.

Additionally, more than 250 distilleries across the country are producing at least one American Single Malt, underscoring the category's remarkable growth and widespread adoption.
