What's up, dudes? It’s a Siouxsie and the Banshees Christmas, as Rikki Meece from the Sleigh Bells and Mistletoe Podcast and I break down two songs from goth rock band! Yep, it’s “Israel” v ”Il Est Né Le Divin Enfant” in the Thunderdome! We talk the band’s catalogue, their Christmas music, their look and sound, and definitely their lyrics! In other words, we get into it all! Two songs enter, one song leaves!"Israel" was released as a stand-alone single in between the albums Kaleidoscope (1980) and Juju (1981) on November 28, 1980 by record label Polydor. While touring in Europe in autumn 1980, the band wanted to write a Christmas song to be released on time for December of that year. They composed it on the road, which was quite unusual for them. It was the first time that Siouxsie Sioux and Steven Severin composed a single with guitarist John McGeoch and drummer Budgie. The song was co-produced by Nigel Gray: it prominently featured a 30 singer Welsh choir on backing vocals. It soon became a classic of their repertoire and was regularly performed during encores at each of their tours.Subsequently, “Il Est Né Le Divin Enfant” was released as B-side to “Melt” on November 26, 1982. The tune for this carol can be found in R. Grosjean's Airs des noêl lorrain (1862), where it is called 'Ancien air de chasse', and it is indeed the case that an old Normandy hunting tune 'Tête bizarde', though in 6/8, is melodically very similar. The Shorter New Oxford Book of Carols editors postulated that the tune is an 18th century composition in a rustic style. The text of this carol was first published in Dom G. Legeay's Noêls anciens (1875-6). Most Common translation is from Edward Bliss Reed from 1930.Synths? Check. ‘80s Goth videos? Yup. 19th century carol with a quasi-canon? Definitely! Bancroft, with his daughter Ellen within 24 hours. In return, Bancroft will provide evidence that could bring down half the crooked politicians in Washington. Bancroft, who is terminally ill, has not seen his daughter in twenty years. However, Ellen knows all about his misdeeds from reading the papers. The old man has another reason to hire the A-Team specifically: he tells Murdock that Templeton Peck was born Richard Bancroft, his son. Bancroft’s former associates in crime don’t want their involvement to go public, so they send goons after Bancroft and his daughter. Can the A-Team intercept them and reunite the estranged family? Of course! That’s why they’re the A-Team! Unfortunately, not before Bancroft dies and misses the chance to tell Face that he’s his dad as well. Family, right?!Explosions? Check. Tricking out the van? When the aristocracy arrives, the herald issues a royal proclamation: “In honor of the season, a great Christmas race will be run.” Not only can anyone can enter, but the winner also gets lollipops made in their likeness and flavor of choice. Oh, and Santa will give them out to all children of the world for Christmas Day! They’ve sent out invitations to local celebrities and politicians and one has finally responded positively! Unfortunately, they only have two days to get it ready. Oh, and Deacon Frye has insulted and run off the director!The staff works hard to finish the preparations for the show, but a freak snow storm prevents the film crew from attending. Of course, the staff is heartbroken. The children, however, are unfazed, and perform the pageant with zeal and joy. What’s up, dudes? Its one of the best vampire movies out there! Yes, I've got Bob Baker from Festive Foreign Film Fans,  Santa Ambassador Matt Spaulding from  North Pole Radio, and Jeremy Phelps the Alamo City Santa with me to talk Salem's Lot! It's a 1979 made for tv movie adaptation of Stephen King's classic novel, and it's dope! When Ben Mears comes back to Jerusalem's Lot, he intends to research and write about the old Marsten House. He befriends a young college girl named Susan, and begins a relationship with her. Meanwhile, the house is bought by antiquities dealers Kurt Barlow and Richard Straker. Spoiler alert: Barlow's a master vampire and Straker's his familiar.The town's denizens slowly begin disappearing, falling ill, and dying. As it turns out, Barlow's been transforming the Glick boys and others into vampires. Mears, Susan, and a few others, including a doctor, a teacher, and young boy named Danny, begin to fight back. After Fr. Callahan fails his crisis of faith and leaves, and after Susan is transformed and slain, the rest eventually kill Barlow and Straker. They set the town on fire, too.Creepy old haunted house? Check. Creepy old antique shop? Uh huh. Creepy old blue skinned vampire with rat teeth? Only if it's a poor makeup job!
