This week’s ship.energy podcast – and the last of 2022 – features Jacob Armstrong, a sustainable shipping officer at Brussels-based NGO Transport & Environment (T&E). As Europe’s ‘Fit for 55’ package of measures moves ever closer to final adoption, in this timely discussion Jacob offers his perspectives on shipping’s inclusion in the EU’s Emissions Trading System (ETS), the IMO’s progress on GHG emissions reduction, and the knotty issue of carbon pricing for bunker fuels.
In his current role, Jacob manages T&E’s advocacy work on shipping in the EU ETS, the Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Regulation and the UNFCCC.
Prior to joining T&E, Jacob spent a year working for the European Commission, before joining the European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and the European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP) as policy officer in charge of files concerning energy, the environment and blue growth.
His educational background is in history, with a specialisation in the history of political thought, at institutions including the University of Edinburgh, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Queen Mary’s and University College London (UCL).
