Samuel "Mad Sam" DeStefano was one of the most feared and sadistic mobsters in the history of the Chicago Outfit, known for his extreme cruelty and psychopathic behavior. Rising from petty crime to become a notorious enforcer and loanshark, DeStefano relished torturing his victims in his basement, turning debt collection into a nightmarish spectacle. His unpredictable violence, coupled with growing paranoia, alienated both his enemies and his allies within the mob. Despite his contributions to the Outfit, his erratic courtroom antics during the trial of Richard Cain sealed his fate. On April 14, 1973, DeStefano was murdered by his own associates, Tony Spilotro and William Daddano, marking the end of his reign of terror. His brutal legacy continues to haunt the annals of organized crime.
