Much like the Carolina Panthers offense, the Panthers defensive unit went through a minor roster overhaul of its own. The Carolina Panthers added yet another running back to the roster on Monday. The Panthers agreed to terms with running back Rashaad Penny, who spent the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks before spending last season with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Carolina Panthers offense has undergone a complete remodel after a putrid 2023 season. Dave Canales comes over from Tampa Bay, where he served as the Buccaneers offensive coordinator, to lead the charge as the Panthers head coach and offensive play caller. The Carolina Panthers crossed off several boxes during the 2024 NFL Draft but still have several holes on the roster that will need to be addressed. The 2024 NFL Draft has come to a close as the Carolina Panthers welcome a seven-man draft class to Charlotte. Carolina went in with several glaring needs and adequately addressed almost all of them through the three days in Detroit. The biggest was the need to surround Bryce Young with more offensive talent. The Panthers wasted no time by trading into the first round to select South Carolina WR Xavier Legette, and then on Day 2, traded back then up in the second round to select Texas RB Jonathon Brooks. Finally, to begin Day 3 of the draft, Carolina addressed the hole at tight end by selecting Ja'Tavion Sanders from Texas. The Panthers have undergone a makeover on defense as stalwarts Brian Burns, Donte Jackson, Frankie Luvu, and Jeremy Chinn all departed during the free agency period. The Carolina Panthers headed into the final day of the 2024 NFL Draft with glaring needs at tight end and cornerback and wasted no time on Saturday afternoon in Detroit by addressing those two positions. The Panthers opened the day by selecting Texas TE Ja'Tavion, who enters a tight end room lead by Tommy Tremble and Ian Thomas. Julian Council explains why he believes Sanders is the perfect complement to those two veterans. Then, in the fifth round, the Panthers selected Washington State CB Chau Smith-Wade to add depth to the position group. Despite the addition of Smith-Wade, Julian believes that the door is open for Stephon Gilmore to make a return to Carolina. During free agency, rebuilding the the offensive line was on of the Panthers main objectives, as the team struggled mightily on that side of the line of scrimmage in 2023. But it wasn't just the offensive side of the ball where the Panthers failed in the trenches. Outside of Derrick Brown, Carolina was arguable just as poor on the defensive line. To address that the Panthers brought in noted run stopper A'Shawn Robinson.
