Young Women with Lipedema: A Norwegian Study on Healthcare Experiences and Social Support

Today, I’m sharing an excerpt from an interview with Dr. Stanley Rockson from our Lipedema Worldwide Summit in 2016.Dr. Rockson is the Director of the Stanford Center for Lymphatic and Venous Disorders, Chief of Consultative Cardiology, and Professor of Lymphatic Research and Medicine at Stanford School of Medicine.In this excerpt, Dr. Rockson describes the lymphatic system in the brain.

Today, we explore research conducted by Joanna Dudek and colleagues from Poland, published in 2018.The authors suggest that because lipedema is a chronic condition, it can lead to feelings of helplessness and depression.Their findings indicate that both appearance-related distress and depression significantly impact the quality of life.This important research highlights the need to understand how lipedema affects all aspects of women's lives and emphasizes the necessity of combating weight bias in healthcare and society.
