Much to unpack in this one - or - about as much as three guys on a Saints podcast can "unpack" during the official doldrums of the NFL preseason. We had hoped not to have to lead with the Jordan Tyson injury issue, but about five minutes before we sat down to record, we got the news of Tyson's injury causing him to miss TWO MONTHS versus what was previously unknown and hoped to be much more minor. Naive of us to think we could simply lead with a recap of our thoughts on the Saints first live game action of the 2026 season. While we do of course get into what we saw and took from the preseason matchup vs. the Jags, we first lead with the Tyson news. We had planned to talk about it "some", so we had our clip up of our post-draft reaction to the pick queued up to play for yall, which suddenly became even more poignant right before we hit record.Other than the bad news, overall we all agree that we saw some encouraging signs out of the play from our backups, especially at the wide receiver positions - and particularly on defense. The three of us were fortunate enough to be in Canton, OH to see OUR GOAT, Andrew Christopher Brees, get enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. At times, getting there seemed more like a pilgrimage instead of a "trip" BUT, Saturday's events made it all worth it. Truly an unforgettable experience and a buvket list item checked, SO we do our best to give you our "boots on the ground" perspective and recount it all to get you as vicariously close to it as possible.Also, CBS Sportsline recently released a list of the NFL's top 100 players of all-time, and....it ranked Brees at No. 33....Since you're likely as pissed or perplexed by this ranking as we were, we dive into the players, and primarily quarterbacks who were ranked ahead of him in order to properly debunk such an idiotic ranking. And so it begins…With multiple training camp practices in the books, including the first one with full pads, the Saints 2026 campaign is officially off and running! LFG! In this one, we get into the big topics, i.e. the Olave contract and Bresee injury, but we also get into some of the other more detailed updates talked about through camp so far. We also go “off-topic” and get into what we think really matters in terms of what to look for out of training camp practices, and this time of year as a whole. What information and reports “really” matter? ALSO, we give a quick preview of next episode, in which we’ll be recapping our trip to CANTON, OH, where ALL THREE of us will be present in-person to see DREW BREES become even more immortalized as an official inductee into the NFL HALL OF FAME! But, seeing how our defense was basically a top 10 unit in most respects last year, they should fare better with the “gameshow treatment” than the offense…right? They say absence makes the heart grow fonder…so now that our summer hiatus is over, we’re back behind the mics, in mid-season form, and beginning our pre-training camp ramp up with one of our patented favorites: THE GAMESHOW. Unlike previous installations in the series that address a specific player, we’re taking on entire sides of the ball for the Saints - starting with the offense. This has consistently been a tried and true method of seeing where a player stacks up, so how will the offense fare vs the rest of the league. Some key signings, a slew of offensive draft picks plus a presumably improved Tyler Shough would make us think the Saints’ offensive ranking, even under the Saintsaholics Gameshow test, should be at least a decent bit up in the ranks, right? One of our “favorite” times of year, the annual NFL Schedule release. How do we think the saints were treated in the lineup of games for 2026? We debate whether we think it’s favorable or whether we think we got screwed in certain spots (per usual). Do we think the timing of the games affects the win/loss total we had based on opponents alone? Also, we talk about the news coming out of rookie minicamp. Only time and results on the field will tell, but did the Kellen Moore era Saints put together ANOTHER solid draft class?? We debate our feelings on that. Definitely has that "feel" to it, especially taking into account the veteran edge added through the draft-day trade, but did we get a little too "eager" drafting some of our guys where we did? Biggest question will remain: Did we make the right call with Jordyn Tyson at No. 8 given his injury past and other stand-out prospects still on the board, especially the widely popular Caleb Downs?? PLUS, much to Corey's delight, the Saints snag NOT ONE, but TWO...DAWGS. He drops his "inside intel" on the Saints 2nd and 3rd round picks, having watched every one of their downs on Saturdays over their college careers. We give our overall takes on the draft class as a whole and what we thought stood out as an overarching theme with this class when it was all said and done.
