On 4th March 1989, Shirley Gibbs Russell went missing from her officers’ quarters in Quantico, Virginia. She was a Captain in the US Marine Corps. She has never been seen since. A 26 step plan to commit the perfect murder would point officers in the direction of Shirley’s killer. Maria de los Angeles Veron was a 23 year old woman living in the Tucuman Province in the northwest of Argentina. On the 3rd April 2002 she left her mother’s home to attend a hospital appointment when, according to witnesses, she was kidnapped by a group of people who dragged her into a red car. Evidence would later suggest these were human traffickers whose aim was to force her into a life of prostitution. In today’s episode we will look at one mother’s crusade to save her daughter. Mother of two, Larissa Schuster, was going through a bitter divorce from her husband, Timothy Schuster. She’d told friends that she wanted her soon to be ex-husband dead and that she could do it and get away with it. So when Timothy went missing without a trace, Larissa quickly became the prime suspect in his disappearance. In February 2006, 8 men applied to take part in a three day clinical trial for a new experimental drug, called TGN1412. It was hoped that this drug would revolutionise the treatment of Leukaemia and some autoimmune diseases. The drug had passed the animal trials and so next was the first human trial. One volunteer later recalled how the doctor “activated the needle - injected me - then I began to feel cold” and this was just the start. Doctors would later describe what followed as “a mystery”. Medical staff had no way of predicting how severe the situation was going to get as these volunteers were left fighting for their lives. Asha Jaquilla Degree went missing from the home she shared with her parents and her brother when she was just 9 years old. Unfortunately, this estate had become increasingly dangerous as unemployment rates rose leading to higher levels of crime. Miss Phillips herself became the target of abuse after she complained about a family on the estate. She was verbally abused, rubbish was dumped in her garden, she had stones thrown at her and faeces were smeared on her house. Despite all of this evidence to support her request to be moved off the estate, the council failed to do so. On the 24th May 2008, 18 year old Rob Knox was out celebrating. He had not long finished filming for ‘Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’ where he played the role of ‘Marcus Belby’. Landing that role was a huge break for Rob who was clearly destined for great things including appearing in the future Harry Potter film ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’. Unfortunately, the defendant was also out that night. After Jamie, Rob’s brother, was threatened with a knife by the defendant, Rob stepped in as the protective older brother. As he and his friends attempted to disarm the defendant, Rob was stabbed 5 times. You see, unbeknownst to the group, the defendant had in fact been carrying two kitchen knives. 5 of Rob’s friends also suffered serious injuries resulting from the confrontation. Despite the best efforts of paramedics and hospital staff, Rob ultimately lost his life that night.
