175: Light As Pet Medicine: Red and Near-Infrared Therapy, Animal Health, and the Deficiency No One Talks About | Jackie Jolie
📺 Watch the Video on Spotify, YouTube & Rumble
One in two cats will get cancer. One in three dogs. Performance horses are kept in stalls, fed processed kibble-equivalent feed, and pushed to their physical limits — and still their cancer rates don't come close. Jackie Jolie spent two decades in that world before realizing what the differentiating variable was. It wasn't diet. It wasn't genetics. It was light.
Jackie Jolie is an equine and canine bodyworker with close to 20 years of experience in animal rehabilitation and performance. After healing her own Lyme disease and persistent hormonal dysfunction through quantum biology and changes to her light environment — without hormone replacement — she founded AnimaSol (formerly EquiSol) to bring red and near-infrared light therapy to dogs, cats, and horses. Find her at animasol.life.
What You'll Learn
- Why cancer rates in cats and dogs have reached epidemic levels — and what domesticated horses can teach us about the root cause
- How red and near-infrared light interact with the mitochondria to produce energy, reduce inflammation, and accelerate tissue repair
- The surprising connection between light exposure and blood sugar — and why 10 minutes of red/NIR light can shift your metabolic markers
- Why agricultural science has been demonstrating light's hormonal power for generations — and what that means for your pets (and you)
- How to think about red and near-infrared light as a supplement your pet is already deficient in, regardless of age or diagnosis
- Two detailed case studies: a fully paralyzed Yorkshire Terrier who walked in 10 days, and a severe peroneal hernia that resolved without surgery in six months
- What to look for in a red light therapy device — and why near-infrared must be included alongside red wavelengths

Key Concepts
Photobiomodulation (PBM): The use of red and near-infrared light to stimulate biological processes at the cellular level. Over 7,000 peer-reviewed studies and counting. Also called red light therapy, though that term technically covers only part of the spectrum.
Red vs. Near-Infrared: Red light (roughly 620–700nm) penetrates 5–10mm — effective for skin, collagen, and surface circulation. Near-infrared (700–1100nm) reaches bone marrow, nerves, and deep soft tissue. Effective devices include both.
Mitochondria: The cellular organelles responsible for producing ATP (energy), structured water, and heat. Red and NIR light directly stimulate the mitochondrial electron transport chain, making these processes faster and more efficient. Mitochondrial health is now understood to be central to metabolic, immune, and neurological function.
Redox Potential: A measure of the body's ability to manage oxidative stress and mount immune responses. Jackie's Lyme disease episode, she argues, was made possible by years of lowered redox from light deficiency — and subsequent tick bites produced no illness once her redox was restored.
Light Deficiency: The premise that modern indoor living has created a systemic, near-universal deficiency in red and near-infrared wavelengths — wavelengths that would have been available essentially continuously in an outdoor ancestral environment. Framed by researchers as the "21st century scurvy."
