President Donald Trump was confronted about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein during an October 28, 2026, campaign rally in Chillicothe, Ohio, when a protester interrupted his speech by shouting that Trump had flown aboard Epstein’s private plane. The president responded by insisting that he had expelled Epstein from Mar-a-Lago approximately two decades earlier, claiming he had recognized Epstein as a troubling individual and ended their association. Trump declared that he had thrown Epstein out of his club and maintained that the released Epstein records had completely exonerated him of wrongdoing. He also attempted to shift attention toward Democrats, claiming Epstein was politically aligned with them and accusing his critics of exploiting the scandal for political purposes. The protester was escorted from the venue as supporters chanted in Trump's defense. The confrontation occurred as Trump campaigned for Republican Senate candidate Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, demonstrating how the Epstein controversy continues to follow the president even during appearances intended to bolster Republican candidates ahead of the November midterm elections.

The confrontation also brought renewed attention to allegations contained in FBI interview records involving an unidentified woman who accused Trump of sexually assaulting her as a minor during an encounter allegedly arranged by Epstein. According to the woman's statements to investigators in 2019, Epstein introduced her to Trump in New York or New Jersey sometime in the early 1980s, when she was between 13 and 15 years old. She alleged that Trump sexually assaulted her during the encounter, although investigators have not publicly established the credibility of those allegations, and the timeline raises significant questions because there is no established evidence that Trump and Epstein knew each other as early as 1983. Trump has consistently denied wrongdoing, while the Justice Department has characterized some allegations submitted to the FBI as false and sensationalized. The renewed scrutiny comes at a particularly difficult political moment for the administration, with Republicans facing growing concerns about the economy, inflation and the war in Iran. A Reuters/Ipsos survey cited in the coverage placed Trump's approval rating at 32 percent and showed Democrats leading Republicans among likely voters on the generic congressional ballot. With the midterm elections approaching, the confrontation underscored the continuing political consequences of Trump's Epstein association and the difficulty his administration has faced in putting the controversy behind it.
