Street Soldiers Radio: Mental Health Awareness Month

Street Soldiers Radio helped to bring attention to Mental Health Awareness Month with guests Joshua Jacobo and Jamila Collins. This year’s theme — More Good Days, Together — encourages us all to reflect on what a “good” day looks like, both for ourselves, and for our communities.

Street Soldiers Radio celebrated the joys of motherhood with our callers and guests. They shared special memories and shout outs of their mothers and motherhood.

Street Soldiers Radio celebrated the beauty, history and complexities of Latino Culture with guests DJ Agana, Professor Lorena Gonzalez, and Erika Lazo Mansilla. 

April 26, 2026 Street Soldiers Radio highlighted Autism Acceptance Month with special guests Monica Howell and Gary Hall who shared their own journeys of parenthood, experiences and resources as together- we advocate for understanding of the various forms of diversity in our communities.  Our caller Jasmine recommended the book Uniquely Human: A Different Way of Seeing Autism by Barry M. Prizant, Ph.D., with Tom Fields-Meyer.

Financially Alive & Free instructor, Ms. Demetra Jones, shared how she developed the curriculum to help keep our students and community free from debt and develop healthy habits when dealing with money, bills and spending habits.

April 5, 2026 Street Soldiers Radio sent a love letter to Richmond, CA.  We celebrated the life of teacher, artist and muscian Latetia Bobo and had her family join us in the studio to celebrate her life and the light she was able to turn on in her students.  Poet, author and film maker Donte Clark shared his newest short film, Blu Honey and his dedication to his home, North Richmond. 

Street Soldiers Radio learned from immigration attorney Monica Oca-Howell about our rights when dealing with ICE agents at the airport, home and in public. We highlight the impactful work of the Six Triple Eight to close Women’s History Month. The 6888th Centeral Postal Battalion (“Six Triple Eight”) was the only all-Black, all-female unit deployed overseas during WWII, tasked with sorting a massive, three-year backlog of mail for American troops in Europe. Led by Major Charity Adams, they cleared the backlog in 3 months instead of the anticipated 6, operating under the motto “No Mail, Low Morale” www.StayAliveAndFree.org

March 22, 2026 Street Soldiers Radio is proud to celebrate the powerful work of the Freedom Braiders. Mother & daughter team Joanna and Tatiana Hernandez brought together some of the best braiders from the Bay Area to go inside and out of the jails teaching and empowering women with the skills of braiding and personal development.

Intimate partner violence alone affects more than 12 million people every year.
