Today’s discussion originates from our 2025 Annual Conference, The Rise of AI and Automation. This week and next, we’ll feature a series of panel discussions from our conference. Today’s episode is part of our fourth and final panel, “AI and Inequality – Are our Social Safety nets up to the task?”.

Our panel today is led by Mr. Anthony Gill.

Anthony Gill is an Australia-based professional aviator with a strong bent on social reform and economic justice. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he put his ideas down in a book, The Luckier Country, which he published in 2022. The success he has had with the book has led him to meet many interesting people and organizations who, like him, want to make the world a better place. Anthony also serves on the Executive Committee of Prosper Australia.

Together, we discussed why AI is like flying a plane without a pilot, the urgent need for a rethinking of social safety nets in response to AI disruptions, and why the negative impacts of AI are brought on by ourselves.
