Barry R. Davis has written a book about something whose success is often invisible - should "The Preventioneers" be successful, there is nothing to show/see.

The author has pulled something of a magical trick, as his excellent book is about an issue for which there is no obvious evidence or visible result.

And that, of course, is the sleight of hand, for if the efforts of his subjects bring success, the disaster does not happen.

"The Preventioneers: Diseases, Disasters, and the Discoveries That Changed Our World" takes on a journey through inspiring stories of individuals who shaped prevention as a public good.

For those of us concerned about climate change, Davis explores the motivations and achievements of climate scientist James Hansen.

It's an enjoyable book, well worth reading.
