Your Teen Isn’t Pulling Away From You
Somewhere around eleven, twelve, thirteen, something shifts. The kid who used to tell you everything starts giving you one-word answers. They stop looking for you and wanting to spend time with you. The door that used to stay open is closed. And the thing that makes sense for us in that moment is the scariest one: my teenager is pulling away, and I'm losing them.
I felt exactly that in my own house, and it's one of the many reasons I came to this work. But here's what I learned. The pullback doesn’t mean they are rejecting you. It’s your kid doing their actual job, becoming their own person, and pushing off you the way a swimmer pushes off the wall. In this episode, Peace and Parenting coach Tim unpacks why the arguing and the eye-rolls are a sign of attachment, not disrespect, why silence is the thing to actually worry about, and how to stay close to a teenager who acts like they don't want you there.
