The Padres fall 3-2 to the Giants after being completely shut down offensively for most of the night. San Diego managed just ONE hit through eight innings before Jackson Merrill delivered a clutch two-run home run in the ninth to cut the deficit to one.   Despite the late rally, the Padres offense continues to struggle early in the season. The San Diego Padres defeat the Detroit Tigers 3-0 behind a dominant performance from Randy Vásquez and a shutdown bullpen. The San Diego Padres had this game in their hands — and let it slip away in the eighth inning.  After leading twice (1-0 and 2-1), the Padres got strong pitching from Michael King (5 IP, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts) and Adrian Morejon (2 scoreless innings) but the offense missed some great chances (12 K's, 3-10 w/ RISP) bullpen couldn't hang on..  Offensively, Jackson Merrill led the way with two hits, a walk, and a run scored, while Ramon Laureano delivered a clutch RBI double to give San Diego the lead.  But everything changed in the eighth inning.
