Connect with Melissa DaveyMelissa Davey, now in her 70's, retired from a lengthy corporate career in 2016 to pursue her second act and dream of becoming a filmmaker.Melissa began her early career in Legal Services. As a Paralegal, Melissa represented more than one thousand individuals before the Social Security Administration and was a national substantive law trainer for the Legal Services Corporation.In 1994 Melissa was recruited to the for-profit company, Genex, headquartered in Wayne, PA, to build their national Social Security advocacy program. As the Vice President of Social Security and Managed Disability for 22 years, Melissa sat on the company’s executive team and worked throughout the United States to create and deliver services to the disability insurance marketplace.At age 65, after a day on the set with M Night Shyamalan, she decided to take a risk and left her career to jump into the unknown.Pursuing her dream of becoming a filmmaker became a reality in late 2018 when Melissa completed her first feature film, Beyond Sixty. During 2019 Melissa’s film was accepted by and screened at 8 film festivals throughout the United States and Canada, winning awards and confirming that it is never too late to learn something new.Picked up by a Distributor and released in 2021, the film is currently available on most streaming platforms, including AppleTV, PrimeVideo, Vimeo, Vudu and YouTubeTV.Melissa’s second film, Climbing into Life details the inspiring life story of Dierdre Wolownick, the oldest woman to ascend El Captain. DR. WAYNE GRADMAN was born and raised in Chicago. His parents divorced when he was three years old, at a time when divorce was almost never an option. He lived with his mother and he thinks he inherited his innate sense of humor and friendliness from her. He attended the University of Chicago for undergraduate work (receiving a BA with honors in biology and philosophy) and then went on to Harvard Medical School to receive his medical degree cum laude. He did postgraduate surgical training in vascular surgery at Cedar-Sinai Medical. He has been married to Susan for over fifty years and has two talented sons—Eric, a computer engineer, and Andrew, a tax attorney. Meet Richard SkorupskiAfter a 21 year career in the U.S. Navy, Richard returned home to his native state of New Jersey. He followed his passion for the open waters and started a second career in the marine parts business.However, the dense population of New Jersey and its high cost of living compelled Richard and his wife, Cheryl, to find a more peaceful and friendly environment for his second retirement. The couple now happily reside in Spink County, South Dakota. His new Book “Becoming One” is an Historical Novel.In the year 1930, Delia has lost her husband and is on the brink of losing her farm. To make matters worse, she may have to give her only son to her sister for upbringing. Peter, who has been hit hard by the death of his wife, is looking for ways to support his two daughters. Unfortunately, the stock market crash has caused the tire plant where he worked to stop production and he has lost his job due to the layoffs. Peter was the brother of Delia’s husband, Paul. With no benefit in staying in Akron, Peter writes to Delia suggesting that they combine their families in a marriage of convenience. Delia agrees, and the story begins with her meeting the train and her soon-to-be husband. Can they work together to raise three children who have never met before? Will their marriage of convenience give them a second chance at happiness?In this episode Richard and I discuss why he decide to write another Historical Novel and why he loves to write. Richard became an author in retirement. Terry hopes that Richard will inspire other boomers to write a book if that is a dream they have always had.
