HRV, Pain, and Longevity: What the Research Means for Your Training | 366
We return to the science with four studies that challenge how we think about readiness, pain, and long-term health. We compare HRV-guided training with a fixed program, then look at how a structured subjective questionnaire can help athletes adjust training. We discuss the DALDA questionnaire, the difference between changing a workout and skipping it, and how stress, fueling, and recovery affect the way a session feels.
We also explore research on rotator cuff abnormalities in both painful and pain-free shoulders, why an imaging finding does not tell the whole story, and the distinction between persistent pain and a traumatic injury. Then we discuss a large study on sleep, physical activity, diet, lifespan, and healthspan, including why small, consistent changes matter. We finish with our own approaches to training on difficult days, adjusting intensity, and getting started when the workout feels harder in your head than it does after the warm-up.
