With no more than 12 per cent of farmers in the EU under the age of 40 and with the average age of a farmer at 57, one of the most urgent priorities of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) is to ensure generational renewal in European agriculture.
As every year, 'Food for Europe' was at the French agricultural fair in Paris to moderate a panel discussion – this time on generational renewal and the future of the Common Agricultural Policy. For this podcast, we have edited together some parts of the debate. You can listen to the complete live broadcast on youtube.
Our guests were: Pierrick Horel, President of 'Jeunes Agriculteurs', a trade union of young farmers in France; Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, director of strategy and policy analysis in the directorate-general for agriculture of the European Commission; Jérémy Decerle a member of the European Parliament representing France and a member of the Parliament’s agriculture committee; and Christophe Godet, farmer and representative for European issues at Coopération Agricole, an association of agricultural cooperatives in France.
