Two people were shot on the set of Alec Baldwin's movie Rust. Director of photography Halyna Hutchins died, and director Joel Souza was wounded. Reports say first assistant director David Halls picked up one of three prop guns set up by armorer Hannah Gutierrez and yelled, “cold gun.” "Cold gun" is industry slang meaning the gun does not contain live rounds. Halls gave the gun to Baldwin, who used it to rehearse a scene. According to the search warrant, Baldwin aimed the weapon at the camera when he fired, striking Hutchins and Souza. Reports suggest crew members used the weapon for target practice earlier that morning. A judge dismissed charges against Baldwin. The actor sued and launched a reality show. Ricky Johnson, David Harrington, and Clayton McGeeney were last seen alive on January 7, 2024, watching the final regular-season Kansas City Chiefs game at the home of their friend, Jordan Willis. Two days later, authorities found their frozen bodies outside the house. After a yearlong investigation, prosecutors charged Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson in connection with the deaths, which gained national attention. Both men face three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivering a controlled substance. Police say Carson, known as "Blade Brown," supplied and sold cocaine to Willis and the victims. Investigators found Carson's DNA on a bag of fentanyl inside Willis' home. Willis and Carson remain in jail on a $100,000 cash bond. If convicted, they each face up to 10 years in prison. During the investigation, law enforcement initially said they did not suspect foul play. A toxicology report later confirmed that the men had cocaine, THC, and fentanyl in their systems. Police have since ruled the deaths as caused by "fentanyl and cocaine toxicity." As the case progressed, Willis moved out of the home and checked into rehab. A forensic analysis of Harrington’s phone uncovered text messages between Willis, McGeeney, Johnson, and others, linking Carson to the cocaine supply. Bryan Kohberger’s defense team has revealed a major development in his upcoming trial. A newly unsealed court filing shows that investigators found three unknown DNA profiles under victim Madison Mogen’s fingernails. Clippings from Mogen’s left hand contained the samples, but testing has not determined their source. Comparisons between the profiles and Kohberger’s DNA were inconclusive, meaning he has neither been confirmed nor excluded as a contributor. Kohberger’s defense is seeking to have the DNA evidence dismissed, arguing that the term “inconclusive” could mislead a jury into believing he might be one of the three individuals whose DNA was found under Mogen’s nails. The attorneys also argue that likelihood ratios, which simply compare the state’s hypotheses, may be wrongly interpreted as a probability of identity. Kohberger claims that independent testing by the defense excluded him as a contributor. His defense team is also arguing that his autism diagnosis should bar him from receiving the death penalty. The attorneys claim that symptoms of autism could prejudice jurors against him, citing his ‘limited facial expressions’ and ‘atypical eye contact’ as behaviors that might be misinterpreted as a lack of remorse or disrespect in the courtroom. The search for Dane Paulsen continues. Crews have searched 382 acres. In the first 24 hours of his disappearance, the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, working with local, state, and federal agencies, deployed 88 certified search and rescue members, four watercraft, four divers, four drones, six human-trailing K9s, 40 investigators, and 138 community volunteers. The FBI is providing family resources through its Victim Services Division. Volunteers arrived at sunrise to help search for the two-year-old, who has been missing since around 4:30 p.m. the previous day. Law enforcement, surprised by the large turnout, set up a command post at a boat launch across the river from the toddler’s home. In a Facebook post, Dane’s mother, Cha Met, pleaded for help, writing, “Our baby is missing. His name is Dane. He’s 2 years old, but he looks like he’s 3 or 4. He was wearing navy blue shoes with two stars, white socks, black sweats, and a dark blue zip-up hooded fleece with teddy bear ears.” Police continue asking the public for any information that could help find the toddler. In her first TikTok, Anthony claims she has "been in the legal field since 2011," an accurate statement if being on trial for her daughter's murder counts as legal experience. Anthony was acquitted of murder but convicted of lying to police. She describes the platform "thrust upon" her as a blessing, not a curse, and says she supports the LGBTQ community. As she pursues her new role as a self-proclaimed "legal advocate," Anthony reintroduces herself by mentioning her daughter, Caylee, and her parents, George and Cindy. She says the TikTok is not about her parents or their actions but adds that she may discuss them in the future. Along with her TikTok video, Anthony announces her deal with Substack, a subscription-based platform for writers and podcasters. Subscriptions to her channel cost $10 per month or $100 annually, with a free tier offering limited content. The world learned about Casey Anthony when her mother called 911 to report that her granddaughter had been missing for nearly a month and that Casey had just admitted it. Anthony spun a web of lies, claiming a nanny had taken 2-year-old Caylee and had not returned her. Police and the media got involved, but none of her claims proved true. On October 14, a grand jury indicted Anthony on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child, and four counts of providing false information to police.
