Joshua Sky, the Masters of the Universe mini-comic writer, joins Comic Book Historians to share growing up on Maui in the 1990s, discovering comics through polybag packs and Marvel trading cards, and finding community in a local Dungeons & Dragons group. He traces his path from a Daily Show internship and five years in Marvel’s licensing division during the Disney acquisition through work at Disney, Fox, and animation on Ben 10 and Niko and the Sword of Light. A science-fiction short story in Heavy Metal led to writing MOTU mini-comics for Mattel, where he has produced about fifty issues, created new characters, and worked with original creators. The talk ends with his short-story collection Nervous System, a Heavy Metal feature, graphic memoir Aloha, and thoughts on thriving as a hybrid corporate-creative.
